About Your Practice
How did you get into this profession?
Being a psychologist never even occurred to me growing up. I served as a Youth Pastor for 4 years after college, fell in love and got married to Debbie, who worked in television. After moving to Nashville from Chattanooga with Debbie's career opportunity, my friend George, who was a psychologist, inspired me to go back to graduate school and learn to help people heal and grow through the therapeutic process.

Who has influenced your work?
My earliest influences were my father and mother who actually liked me and provided a secure, emotionally honest and fun-filled childhood. Professionally, I was influenced by the lives and writings of Francis Schaeffer, C S Lewis, Larry Crabb, Dan Allender, Scotty Smith, and too many others to mention.

How does your faith play itself out in your work?
Faith is an integral part of my worldview. A variety of historic Christian faith traditions inform my own spiritual formation, and these are thoroughly integrated into the variety of psychological traditions I embrace. The diversity of these faith and science traditions allows me to value and respect the individual worldviews and processes of my clients without judgment or imposition of my personal views.
