Alex provides a safe place for individuals, couples, and families to engage their heart and begin to live fully. He helps them more deeply explore their story and the effect of key relationships (both historically and currently), allowing them to heal in areas of relational woundedness/ brokenness and become who they are made to be.

His practice is grounded in the Spiritual Root System™ and influenced by narrative therapy, psychodynamic theories, existential philosophy, as well as other psychosocial theories. Alex brings a diverse approach to his counseling practice by integrating the psychological, spiritual, and social aspects of a person’s life.

Alex joined Sage Hill in 2014 and is the Director and Co-Owner of Sage Hill Murfreesboro. Alex’s personal mission in life is to live fully in relationship with himself, others, and God and help others do the same.

He lives in Murfreesboro TN with his wife, Meredith and daughter, Norah Jane.

Where are you from?
I was born in San Diego, California but I've lived most of my life in middle Tennessee.

Do you have pets?
While I am currently without pets, I grew up always having 2 dogs and 2 cats. My favorite breeds are Golden Retrievers and Saint Bernards. I have always loved animals.

About Your Practice
How did you get into this profession?
I decided to become a therapist because of the way counseling transformed my own life. In my pursuit of a full life, I longed to share the gift I found with others.

Who has influenced your work?
The primary influencers in my work as a counselor are -- Irvin Yalom, Dan Allender, Chip Dodd, and Stephen James,

How does your faith play itself out in your work?
I operate from the belief that we are created as emotional and spiritual beings, and made for relationship with ourselves, others, and God.

What is your favorite type of music and your favorite singer/band?
While my music tastes are quite diverse, 90s country is the sound of home and I always find my way back there.

Which TV show would you never miss?
Much to my wife's delight, we rarely miss new Hallmark movies. While they're sometimes laughably cheesy, I love that life's not tragic on hallmark.

What's your favorite book or author?
Growing up my favorite books were Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Narnia. As an adult I

What is your favorite sport/physical activity?
I love Clemson football!

What's your favorite place to visit?
My favorite place to visit is a quite beach and a good book.

Just for Fun
What was your first job?
My first job was working construction with my Dad. During my childhood summers, I would often go to work with him.

What is your most treasured possession?
My most treasured physical possession is my book collection. I am Amazon's ideal customer. If I like a book I'm reading on my kindle/audible account, I will also buy the physical book for my bookshelves.

If you have friends coming over, what would you cook?
I love food and I love to cook. First, if friends were coming over, everything would be made from scratch. My ideal meal would probably be something Italian.

What pastimes or hobbies do you enjoy?
My favorite pastime is probably reading a good book with a cup of coffee in the morning. I also love to build things--particularly with wood. Lately, plants have also become a hobby.

Other than your current home, if you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I have a dream of moving to a small, quiet town in Maine.
