Subordination is gaining success, serenity, or even worth through ranking oneself below another. Human beings cannot truly tolerate or accept subordinating their worth beneath another. Subordination is fueled by fear, hurt, and control.

Submission is choosing to give and serve out of love’s sake by being willing to live with the appropriate authority of another. Sometimes submission is a return of grace and mercy for what we have received. Submission can never be achieved through obligation—it is an act of liberation, not of subjection.
This Glossary of Heart presents a daily choice for us. The first option keeps us where we are. The second option takes us on a journey into our hearts. It’s the hardest yet most courageous choice we can make. I hope you take the risk.
