Glossary of Heart: Reaction vs. Response

Reaction is an unexamined and unplanned behavior based upon the actions of another. It suggests a lack of awareness of our hearts. It reveals how we see ourselves as victims of other people’s power. Reaction makes others the “masters” of our lives. Reaction is having our needs only partially met while keeping our hearts hidden.

Response considers the heart’s truths and is based upon emotional and spiritual examination. It never attempts to control or shame another, or hide heart truths. Because responsive people know their hearts, they can act in truth and clarity when life’s difficulties surface.

This Glossary of Heart presents a daily choice for us. The first option keeps us where we are. The second option takes us on a journey into our hearts. It’s the hardest yet most courageous choice we can make. I hope you take the risk.
