Movement 1 (Beatitudes)

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed to be bowed are those who have finally admitted their despair, the desperate reality of emotional and spiritual poverty. Having come to the end of ourselves, our contempt, control, sufficiency, egotism, and pride, we bowed our hearts with nothing left but small hope and utter dependence upon something doing for us what we could not do for ourselves. Those of us who have come to this place and cried out in the utter defeat of our egos were given a miracle — a doorway into the life we sought.

In our broken heartedness, we hoped for nothing but life, having found that nothing we did could answer the heart’s craving for fulfillment. We had already given ourselves to other things and found everything lacking, even the religion of determining to be good in our own power.

We finally turned away from everything we used to silence our hearts; we cry out to anything that can answer. We found the truth for our hope and the beginning of our lives in a Presence that is true and faithful, unending and present, powerful and loving – – And most of the time we meet this God through others or reconcile with the God we once knew through others. The God who seeks us back. The God who is relational.

He had, is and will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. We have stepped into a life worth living here and place to go when we are finished.
